Privacy and cookies
We keep this simple: no advertising, no tracking cookies and no selling of data. We only count visits in an anonymous way. This page explains the little we do store and why.
The short version
- No tracking or advertising cookies We do not use advertising or social-media cookies, our visit statistics set no cookies at all, and we do not build a profile of you.
- Your choices stay on your device Your currency, your visa checklist ticks and your saved trips are kept in your own browser.
- Only what you send us If you use the contact form, we keep your name, email address and message to answer you.
- Partner sites have their own rules When you follow a booking link, the partner site (for example GetYourGuide or Booking.com) uses its own cookies and privacy policy. Hotel links pass through our affiliate network, CJ, which sets its cookie only when you click, never while you read our pages.
What we store and why
- Contact form. Your name, email address, topic and message are stored in our database and emailed to us, so we can reply. To stop spam we keep a shortened, scrambled code of your connection for one hour; it cannot be turned back into your IP address. Ask us and we delete your messages.
- Saved custom trips. When you save a customised itinerary we store the route, the extra nights and activities you chose, a trip code and a private key, and the date it was last opened. We do not store your name or email address with it. Anyone with the code can view the trip; only the private edit link can change or remove it.
- Anonymous visit statistics. To see how many people visit and which pages are useful, we use WP Statistics, which runs on our own server. It sets no cookies. Your IP address is scrambled (hashed) so it cannot be turned back into your address, and the data is not shared with anyone else. We see the pages visited, the country, the type of device and browser, and the site that sent you here.
- Server logs. Like every website, the server that hosts this site can keep standard access logs (IP address, page, time and browser) for security and to fix errors. We do not use them to identify or follow visitors.
Cookies and browser storage
We only use storage that makes the site work the way you set it. None of it is shared with anyone.
| Name | Type | Purpose | Kept for |
|---|---|---|---|
| currency_preference | Functional cookie and browser storage | The currency you picked for prices (INR, USD, EUR or GBP) | 1 year |
| visa_checklist | Functional cookie and browser storage | Which items you ticked on the visa document checklist | 1 year |
| ij_trip_… | Browser storage | The custom trips you saved, with their private edit key, so you can find them again | Until you remove the trip |
| privacy_notice_seen | Browser storage | That you have seen the privacy notice, so it does not show again | Until you clear your browser |
| ij_just_saved, ij_trip_ok_… | Session storage | Short-lived notes while you save a trip | Until you close the tab |
Site editors who log in also get the standard WordPress login cookies. Visitors never do.
Your data and your choices
We do not keep personal data about visitors: there are no accounts and no profiles, and our visit statistics are anonymous. The only exception is a message you choose to send through the contact form on the About page; write to us there and we will delete it. Everything else stays in your own browser, and you can clear it at any time in your browser settings: the site then simply forgets your currency and saved trips on that device.
Changes
If we add anything that stores more about you, such as advertising or cookie-based analytics, we will update this page first and, where the law asks for it, ask for your permission.
