Dubrovnik for Indian Travellers: City Walls and the Adriatic

Description
A walled old town on a blue sea, Game of Thrones locations and island boat trips: the beautiful finale of a Croatia trip, best enjoyed before the cruise crowds arrive.
Dubrovnik is the last stop on most Croatia itineraries, after Zagreb, the Plitvice Lakes and Split. Croatia is in the Schengen area, so your Schengen visa covers it, and the airport has good one-stop connections from India through the Gulf and Istanbul. Plan three nights: the city walls early in the morning, the Stradun and the Rector's Palace, the cable car up Mount Srđ for sunset, and a boat to Lokrum island for a swim.
The old town gets very busy when cruise ships are in port, usually from late morning to late afternoon. Walk the walls at opening time, rest in the middle of the day and come back in the evening, when the stone streets are quiet and lit.
Dalmatian food is based on fish and seafood, but vegetarians can rely on pasta and risotto with vegetables, pizza, Swiss chard with potatoes (blitva) and local cheeses. Dubrovnik is the most expensive city in Croatia, and summer prices are high, so May, June and September give better value and kinder temperatures.
