Plitvice Lakes: Boardwalks Between Waterfalls

Description
A national park of 16 terraced lakes joined by waterfalls, with wooden walkways, electric boats and a train. Go early, and book the entry slot.
Plitvice is Croatia's most visited national park, so timing matters. Entry is by timed ticket in high season, with a cap of 300 people per hour per entrance. In 2026 the adult ticket costs about EUR 40 from June to September, EUR 23 in April, May and October, and EUR 10 from November to March. The ticket covers the electric boats and the shuttle train.
Routes of two to eight hours loop the upper and lower lakes. Most people arrive from Zagreb (two hours) or Split (three and a half hours) as part of a day tour, and some stay overnight near the park to walk before the coaches arrive. Food at the park is simple; vegetarians do best with the plates of local cheese, soup and side dishes at the restaurants near the entrances.
