Berlin for Indian Travellers: History, Museums and Easy Veg Food

Berlin

Description

The Brandenburg Gate, the Berlin Wall, Museum Island and one of the most vegetarian-friendly food scenes in Europe, in the city where Don 2 was filmed.

Berlin is a city of history and change, and a rewarding stop for Indian travellers on a Germany or Central Europe route. Hindi film fans may recognise it from Don 2, which filmed many of its scenes here. Plan three nights: the Brandenburg Gate and the Reichstag dome (free, but book online), the Berlin Wall Memorial and the East Side Gallery, the museums on Museum Island, and Charlottenburg Palace.

Berlin is one of the easiest cities in Europe for vegetarians and vegans, with meat-free restaurants in every district and many Indian restaurants. Street food classics include falafel and vegetarian döner, and supermarkets stock plenty of ready meals for families who self-cater.

Berlin is cheaper than Munich, Paris or London for hotels and meals. Shops close on Sundays, and cash is still needed in some small cafes and bakeries, so carry a few euros. Prague is about four and a half hours away by direct train, which makes an easy link into the Central Europe circuit.
